Southampton · Five Cruise Terminals

Essex to Southampton,
the whole way, seated.

The UK's busiest cruise port is a three-hour drive and two motorways from Essex. It is the journey where a chauffeur stops being a luxury and starts being the sensible way to arrive at your ship unfrayed.

The Southampton run,
taken off your hands.

Southampton is where most British cruising begins — P&O, Cunard, Princess, MSC and Royal Caribbean all sail from its five terminals. It is also, from Essex, an awkward journey: the M25 anticlockwise, the M3, and roughly three hours in which a single incident on the Dartford Crossing can rearrange your entire morning.

That is the argument for a chauffeur, and it is a practical one rather than a decorative one. We leave with margin. We monitor the M25 before departure and choose the approach accordingly. If the crossing is closed, we have already decided what we are doing instead, and you find out about none of it.

Southampton's terminals are spread across the docks — Ocean, Mayflower, QEII, City and Horizon are separate buildings with separate approaches, and turning up at the wrong one with an hour to spare is a genuinely bad start to a holiday. Your terminal is confirmed from your ship and sailing date at the point of booking.

For a journey of this length the Mercedes-Benz V-Class earns its place: executive seating, climate control, refreshments in the cabin, and enough luggage capacity for seven people's cruise cases. Three hours passes very differently in the back of one than it does in your own car in lane two of the M25.

The M25 Planned For

Traffic and the Dartford Crossing are assessed before departure, with an alternative route already chosen. You hear about none of it.

iii

Three Hours, Comfortably

Executive seating, climate control and refreshments in the cabin. You arrive at the ship rested rather than wrung out.

iv

Luggage for Seven

The V-Class carries a full set of cruise cases for seven passengers without anyone holding a bag.

Long distance,
short on surprises.

Southampton is the furthest of our regular port runs, and the one where departure timing matters most. Everything about how we plan it is designed around the fact that the M25 is not a reliable narrator.

Your booking is confirmed in writing within the hour. We note your flight number, terminal, passenger count, and any particular requirements — luggage, accessibility, or a preference for a quieter cabin.

02

Flight Monitoring Begins

From the moment of confirmation, your flight is placed under continuous monitoring. Delays, gate changes, and early arrivals are absorbed without conversation — the schedule adjusts quietly.

The vehicle is cleaned, fuelled, and prepared personally. Refreshments are arranged. A confirmation message is sent when your chauffeur is en route.

Collection is calculated from your boarding window, not from a guess. We build in margin for the crossing, the motorway and the terminal queue.

Return Collection Tracked

Ships dock early as often as they dock late. Your return is monitored, and waiting time on a delayed arrival is never charged.

it matters.

"I booked as a 60th birthday treat for my husband — Thailand for Christmas and his birthday. I wanted him to arrive in style, and that is exactly what happened. Jamie loaded our bags, gave us a tour of all the facilities, and a gorgeous bottle of bubbly was on ice waiting for us. Chatty but not intrusive. Polite and funny. Very professional."

"Reliable, punctual and friendly service. We were going on a 40th birthday trip and all the little extras certainly made it even more memorable. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. First class service."

Conducted personally,
by Jamie Gifford.

Travel in Style Essex is not a fleet operation. There is one chauffeur: Jamie Gifford, who founded the service in 2019 and has conducted every journey personally since. When you make an enquiry, you speak to Jamie. When you are collected, it is Jamie at the door.

He holds an advanced RoSPA driving qualification, a clean PCO licence, and a DBS certificate. He drives as he attends to everything else — with composure, without hurry, and with the particular care of someone who takes pride in his work.

"The standard I hold myself to is simple: I ask whether I would be comfortable if the people I most respect could see exactly what I was doing and why. The answer is always yes."

Questions about your
Southampton cruise transfer.

How long is the drive from Essex to Southampton?
Around three hours from most Essex addresses via the M25 and M3, though the Dartford Crossing and the hour of departure both matter. We plan the collection time around your boarding window with margin built in.
Which Southampton terminal will I be sailing from?
Southampton has five — Ocean, Mayflower, QEII, City and Horizon. Your terminal depends on your ship and sailing date, and we confirm it at the point of booking so the car stops at the right building.
Is the Dartford Crossing charge included?
Yes. Tolls and the Dartford Crossing charge are included in the quoted fare. Nothing is added afterwards.
Can you collect us when we disembark?
Yes. Return collections are monitored against the ship's actual arrival, and waiting time on a delayed docking is not charged. Most clients book both legs together for a preferential rate.
Is it cheaper to drive and park at Southampton?
Rarely, once everything is counted. Two weeks of port parking, fuel both ways, and the six hours of driving usually come to more than a chauffeured return — and the drive home after a cruise is the leg nobody enjoys.
What if there is a serious delay on the M25?
We depart with margin and assess the route before setting off, with an alternative already chosen. In practice this is the single most valuable part of the service on a Southampton run.
Can you take a group of eight or more?
Yes, by arrangement with a second vehicle. Tell us the passenger count and luggage at the point of enquiry and we will quote accordingly.
