Dover's cruise terminals sit in the Western Docks, beneath the castle and the white cliffs, and it remains one of the more theatrical places in Britain to board a ship. From Essex it is a journey of roughly two hours — the Dartford Crossing, the A2 and the M2 — and almost all of the risk sits in the first fifteen minutes of it.
The Dartford Crossing is the reason Dover transfers go wrong. A closure, a restriction, or simply the wrong hour of the morning can add an hour before you have properly begun. We check it before departure, choose the tunnel or the bridge accordingly, and leave with enough margin that the answer does not much matter.

Travel in Style Essex is not a fleet operation. There is one chauffeur: Jamie Gifford, who founded the service in 2019 and has conducted every journey personally since. When you make an enquiry, you speak to Jamie. When you are collected, it is Jamie at the door.
He holds an advanced RoSPA driving qualification, a clean PCO licence, and a DBS certificate. He drives as he attends to everything else — with composure, without hurry, and with the particular care of someone who takes pride in his work.
